Without fail, everyone that meets Costa (and who inquires about his age) thinks he is a puppy. He is 9 years old. His muzzle is getting gray but it looks just like part of his [un]natural blue merle (?) coloring. He also has proportionally huge feet and unlimited energy, all very puppy-like.
That dog loves to swim, more so than any dog of any breed I've ever seen! Holy cow. He loves the ocean, he loves lakes, and he loves pools. In spite of being smart and well-behaved, he would literally swim until he exhausted himself and drowned, if we didn't keep an eye on him and call him out.
Being a purebreed from a puppy mill, he has genetic problems. He has to take potassium bromide (fortunately the mild seizure treatment) every day to keep seizures at bay.
He was trained as a puppy to be a search and rescue dog, and although I believe he "graduated", I don't think he went on any real searches.
